Passengers suffering

-

SIR – Why is the fight between train operators and unions over the scrapping of guards allowed to continue unabated?

I understand the wish of the operators to modernise and save money, and I appreciate that the unions wish to protect their members. However, why is this poisonous stalemate not recognised and the poor passengers saved from it?

Now, who could possibly do that for them? Oh, I see that we have a government ministry, the Department for Transport. Peter Hill
