Driven to desperation
SIR – I lost my driving licence last year in similar circumstances to Brian Cave’s (Letters, September 27).
I suffered a minor brain-bleed in a skiing accident. A neurologist found no after-effects, but told me I must report my injury to the DVLA. My licence was suspended for six months.
Towards the end of the suspension, I applied to have my licence reinstated. The date came and went. I telephoned DVLA customer services every Friday for three months, always to be told my application was in a queue. I complained to the DVLA but never received a reply.
I read in The Daily Telegraph of an RAF officer unable to get a visa for his American bride to join him in Britain. He contacted his MP. So I did the same.
I telephoned Bill Esterson’s constituency office on the Tuesday and had my licence on the Saturday. Tony Taylor
