Cult of Corbyn numbs critical faculties of the Dear Leader’s devotees

-

SIR – The frenzied and frequent applause, standing ovations and bursts of “Oh, Jeremy Corbyn” during his closing speech to the Labour Party Conference were disconcerting.

This kind of behaviour is suggestive of a cult in which people are so mesmerised by their Dear Leader that they have been robbed of their critical faculties and common sense.

SIR – My blood ran cold when John Mcdonnell, the shadow Chancellor, announced during his conference speech that “every worker from day one will be a member of a union”.

It brought back memories of closed shops and union barons exercising power over the government. Sandwiches and beer at No 10 anyone? John Blyth

SIR – Not content with taking us back to the Seventies, Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour now seeks to invoke the spirit of 1926. Laura Smith MP’S call for a general strike was met by a rapturous standing ovation not only from the hall but also from the platform.

What message does this send to those seeking to invest in this country?

SIR – Watching a little of the Labour conference turned my stomach. All the questions about the affordability of all their promises pale into nothing when I ponder the prospect of a Marxist government here in Britain.

Are half a million members really signed up to this fiasco? Conservatives must counter this propaganda by outlining economic realities and proposing a vision of the way forward.

St Mary Bourne, Hampshire SIR – The Labour Party as we knew it is dead, and the party claiming to be Labour is in fact a communist party. A vote for so-called Labour candidates would not bring a Labour government, but a communist government.

Very many people who usually vote Labour would be horrified if their votes enabled this to happen. Max Faber

SIR – Amid the Marxist rhetoric about how Mr Corbyn is going to “save” Britain, there was no mention whatsoever of law-and-order issues – perhaps to avoid any embarrassment to Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London.

Paul Strong

Claxby, Lincolnshire SIR – I note that Comrade Corbyn promises, if elected, to create 400,000 “green jobs”. Let’s hope it wasn’t Diane Abbott doing the maths. Steve Thomas

SIR – Could someone name just one country whose people have benefited from Corbyn-style socialism? Brian Christley

SIR – I find that Fabian Hamilton holds the post of “shadow minister for peace and disarmament”. I wasn’t aware that there was such a ministerial post for him to shadow.
