Fury over plans to build near Shakespeare’s grave
Campaigners are furious over what they have labelled “outrageous” plans to build futuristic homes just yards from William Shakespeare’s grave.
A proposed development will see six three-storey properties built with subterranean car ports that rise out of the ground. However, it will overlook Shakespeare’s grave in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-avon, Warks.
The site in the Old Town is in a conservation area but councillors are expected to approve the plans.
Residents have reacted with anger towards the plan, which they have called “a monstrosity”.
The Campaign to Protect Rural England has branded it “an eyesore”, and Historic England have also urged the council to reject the plan.
A final decision on the plans is expected next month.
