Meet the author
SIR – In the early Seventies John Cunliffe, the author of the Postman Pat books (Obituaries, September 28), was the head librarian of Brighton Children’s Library.
As a child I loved going to his “Sam Pig” reading club, held on Saturday mornings before the library opened.
I still remember his gentle accent and long black beard. Even now I love that sense that libraries give of both calm and the quiet excitement of being surrounded by books, which was instilled by that library. Marisol Greenslade
