Top of the hops

SIR – How refreshing to read Tim Barnsley’s thoughts (Letters, September 29) on exotic hop flavours.

We have been buying boring old Fuggles and Goldings from the same Worcesters­hire hop merchant for the last 33 years. We were thinking of growing shovel beards and becoming hipster craft brewers, but we spend too much time in our local pubs – pubs, mind you, not gastrobars – drinking beer-flavoured beer.

Occasional­ly we are asked for tasting notes. Bring on the spitoons!
