Truss: halt ‘crazed’ Corbyn with super shock of building

- By Daniel Capurro

THE Conservatives need a “super shock” of house building to protect the country from “socialist, crazed” Jeremy Corbyn, Liz Truss has said.

The Chief Secretary to the Treasury also issued a warning to “Nimbys” who block house-building in their area.

Ms Truss said: “I think it is wrong for Nimbys who own houses to be stopping new developments which could benefit the next generation.

“My argument would be having attractive and reasonable development in your area, and enabling your children and your grandchildren to buy homes, is going to be much better than having a Labour government run by a socialist crazed individual who wants to appropriate property.

“That is what he has said – he wants to appropriate shareholder wealth and he would come for homes next.

Ms Truss was speaking at the Telegraph Refresh fringe event at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham. She continued: “If you think a Conservative government is going to help your business grow, get a new house, and there is a risk in voting for nut job central, then you are not going to do it.”

Ms Truss also spoke of how she was accidentally “outed” to her Left-wing parents as a Conservative by a friend who sent a postcard to her home.

She revealed: “One of my friends sent a postcard to my house saying “Liz, I cant believe you have become a Tory”. And I hadn’t admitted to my dad that I had joined the Tory party.

“I was outed. And he was pretty disappointed with me.”

On winning young people over to the Tory party, she said: “We need to persuade young people that freedom is more important than free things.

“The idea that you can have an economy run by a committee of the government like [John] Mcdonnell is proposing, a state on steroids where probably over half of our national income will be spent by the state – that is a scary prospect for people who have grown up in a very free society.”
