EE accused of exaggerating rural coverage
Britain’s biggest mobile phone operator has been accused of exaggerating its rural network coverage, leading Ofcom to launch an investigation yesterday.
EE wrongly told some customers in rural areas that they would be able to get a 3G mobile signal, it has admitted. This was because its regional data on mobile coverage overstated the areas that it covered.
Over the past year, Ofcom said, two mobile operators had filed inaccurate information, with EE accused of exaggerating its 3G coverage in rural areas, while Vodafone had understated its 4G network reach.
An EE spokesman said several hundred customers had been affected and apologised “for any confusion this may have caused”.
