Oscar Isaac stars in and co-produces this historical drama, in which a team of Mossad agents attempt to hunt down Adolf Eichmann (Ben Kingsley). The target had been presumed dead; in fact, he’s hiding in Buenos Aires, and Peter Malkin (Isaac) now has to capture him and smuggle him out. The film smoulders without ever fully catching light, but Isaac and Kingsley bring some spark and dark wit to their respective roles. FILM4, 9.00PM ★★★
This is, by and large, a reprocessed version of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), so half the fun of watching is in spotting links to its predecessor. Kirk and Spock are back, and Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto still fit the roles as cosily as their Lycra jumpsuits. This time they’re going after the villainous Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch), who’s scarpered to planet Kronos and left all kinds of mayhem in his wake. CHANNEL 4, 12.50AM ★★★★
Ryan Gosling may star as Luke Glanton, a petrol-head outlaw, but this is no Drive. Derek Cianfrance’s novelistic crime drama (his first film since Blue Valentine, also starring Gosling) tells three interlinked stories set over 15 years, as two generations of men strive to outplay the hands that fate and their fathers have dealt them. Eva Mendes gives an understatedly strong performance as Romina, Luke’s ex. A bold modern American epic.
