Teacher found hanged after being told she was immature
♦ A teacher was found hanged after being told she was emotionally immature and unfit to return to work.
Doncaster coroner’s court heard Chelsey Peart, 27, who taught at Rawmarsh Community School and also ran a textiles business, was found by her husband Mark at their home in Rotherham in April. Her GP had signed her off work on a number of occasions dating back to November 2017.
Helen O’brien, the school’s head teacher, said she took Mrs Peart to the hospital in November, after she told a member of staff she had suicidal thoughts.
The court heard Mrs Peart attempted to take her life in February and that in March, she was “annoyed” by an occupational therapist’s letter that labelled her as “emotionally immature”, something her mother, who was present in court, said “changed her completely”.
Louise Slater, the assistant coroner, recorded a narrative verdict, saying she could not record a conclusion of suicide as the evidence she had heard did not prove Chelsey intended to take her own life.
She added: “I have no doubt that [the report] had a very detrimental effect on Chelsey’s wellbeing.”
