Tweaking a job title can save hundreds in car insurance

- By Dan Moore and Katie Morley

DRIVERS who exercise a little creativity regarding their job title could save up to £130 on their car insurance, analysis suggests.

Insurance firms use information asuch as people’s job descriptions to decide the price of policies, with some career choices deemed riskier than others, even if they sound similar.

According to quotes obtained by this newspaper via comparison site, Gocompare, a man describing his job as a “bank clerk” instead of a “cashier” would save almost £130 on the price of an annual policy.

The quote was based on a 30-yearold bank teller living in south London and insuring a 2.0L Ford Focus.

Similarly an accountant choosing to call themselves a “bookkeeper” instead of a “finance officer” could cut their annual premium by more than £100.

In addition GPS are deemed more risky than doctors, while journalists are viewed as more accident-prone than their editors. Money: Page 6
