Ukrainian filmmaker ends hunger strike

Oleg Sentsov, a Ukrainian filmmaker who refused food for more than 140 days in a Russian jail, has ended his protest after Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, rejected his plea to free Ukrainian political prisoners.

Sentsov, who is serving 20 years in prison for what he says are politicall­y motivated terrorism charges, had spent 144 days without solid food but called off his hunger strike yesterday after a high-profile campaign.
