Lacking in judgment

SIR – As a retired circuit judge who spent many years as a barrister appearing before many judges, I was appalled at the behaviour of Brett Kavanaugh at the Senate committee. The thought of appearing before such a judge would cause me real concern.

A judge must make it clear that he or she is there to dispense justice and is prepared to deal with all manner of advocates and witnesses equally, with courtesy and attention.
