5,000 now missing after Indonesian earthquake

The number of people believed missing from the earthquake and tsunami that struck Indonesia’s Palu city has soared to 5,000.

Indonesia’s disaster agency says it has recovered 1,763 bodies from the 7.5-magnitude quake and subsequent tsunami that hit Sulawesi island on Sept 28. But there are fears the area could contain thousands more victims, swallowed up by the ground that engulfed whole communitie­s.
