New year revolution

-

SIR – I was intrigued to see Sir Peter Beale (Letters, October 5) suggesting January starts for universities as a new concept.

The University of Buckingham pioneered the January start 42 years ago. It has proved very popular with those who want a five-month mini gap-year, as well as some who hadn’t made up their minds in September.

There are also those who join us from other universities in January because they prefer Buckingham’s accelerated degrees, which they complete in two years, thus reaching the world of work before their peers.
