Taylor Swift has spoken out, but I’m not listening
Don’t do it – please don’t! Oh and she’s gone and done it: Taylor Swift has got political. Having shrewdly avoided speaking out about her political allegiances for the duration of her career, the 28-year-old pop star on Sunday wrote on Instagram about how she plans to vote in the midterms.
The post was too long and too emotive, and like all celebrities who seem to have had their political and ethical views pre-packaged and presented to them in one of those carefully compartmentalised in-flight meal trays, everything was just as it should be. Of course, Taylor was endorsing a Democrat. Of course, this was because she believes “in the fight for LGBTQ votes”. (The “Q” stands for “questioning”).
But my heart didn’t sink as much as it normally would because the number of middle American fans she’ll alienate by doing this is far less than those who will have turned against Taylor for coming out in favour of gun-control reform back in March.
That was something we could hear more on.
