Spanish court acquits doctor who stole baby
A Spanish court has found an 85-yearold former doctor guilty of taking a newborn baby away from her mother under the Franco dictatorship. But the Madrid court ruled the deed was committed too long ago for the defendant to be legally convicted.
Eduardo Vela, a gynaecologist, was found guilty of taking Ines Madrigal, now 49, from her mother in 1969. Thousands of babies were taken from their mothers during the dictatorship, but Vela was the first to stand trial for involvement in baby trafficking.
