Vocal fry up

SIR – There is a trend, particularly among young women, for speaking from the back of the throat. As the sentence continues, the voice becomes croaky as it descends to the stomach.

It has been described as “vocal fry”, and I gather that Kim Kardashian is an offender. I suspect it comes from California. David Ellis
