Mamma MIA
RADIO 4, 11.30AM
The rapper MIA is a woman of many talents, a songwriter and activist who found worldwide fame in 2008 with her song Paper Planes (which featured in the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire). This documentary gives us a portrait of her career from the perspective of fan and comedy writer Jack Rooke. He weaves MIA’S story into a telling of the tumultuous year of 2008, ranging from the financial crisis to the election of Barack Obama as US President – and (more poignantly) a tumultuous period in Rooke’s own personal life.
