Bet on the Church

-

SIR – I am delighted that the Church of England is campaigning for a ban on gambling advertisements during sports broadcasts on television (report, October 8) – although they should ultimately be banned altogether.

Cigarette advertising has been banned for years on health grounds, but gambling also does untold damage to participants and their families. Rona Taylor

SIR – The Church is right to back a ban on gambling advertisements.

There are other ways to reduce the gambling urge. When I rang a national betting company at the weekend to place one of my occasional wagers, I was advised that the minimum betting amount acceptable has increased to £25. My habit was cured immediately. Barry Bond
