Season of waste

SIR – You published a wonderful picture (October 9) of pumpkins being harvested in Nottinghamshire.

What a travesty that most will be used for decoration for Hallowe’en, when the flesh is packed with vitamins and fibre.

This is yet another example of our wonky world: we throw away good food while millions of others long for a nutritious meal. Margaret Francis
