Paralysed man wins case against A&E department

-

A man paralysed after being hit over the head will be paid compensation after the Supreme Court ruled a receptionist misled him over the waiting time in A&E.

Michael Darnley was wrongly told he faced a five-hour wait at the Mayday Hospital in Croydon, London, where he was taken after being struck over the head in an attack in May 2010.

Mr Darnley, who was 26 at the time, felt too unwell to stay at the hospital and returned home, but later suffered a catastrophic bleed on the brain and was left with left-sided paralysis. Medical staff would have been able to see him much earlier, the court heard. The amount of damages Mr Darnley will receive will be assessed at a later date.
