Large tour groups are clogging up Cambridge
Chinese visitors travelling around Cambridge en masse are a “problem”, a tourism chief has said.
Visit Cambridge and Beyond, the city’s tourism service, said large groups of up to 50 people were making parts of the area “impassable”. Emma Thornton, the chief executive, said that “many visitors, particularly those from China”, arrive in large groups. “If you have 50 people standing in front of King’s College at any one time, it’s a problem.”
John Hipkin, a local independent councillor, said tourism in the city was “simply unsustainable” and called for action to be taken to reduce numbers.
