Wannacry cyber attack cost the NHS £92m
A global cyber attack that crippled computers in hospitals and GP practices last year cost the NHS £92million, a report from the Department of Health reveals.
The Wannacry hack, which shut down computers around the world with ransom demands, hit a third of hospital trusts and 8pc of GP practices.
It caused more than 19,000 appointments to be cancelled between May 12 and May 19, costing £20million, while IT cleanup and upgrades totalled £72 million.
The attack was blamed on elite North Korean hackers, but the NHS was criticised for using outdated systems that were vulnerable.
