50,000 trees in tribute to Queen
Fifty thousand trees are to be sent across the UK next week for planting as part of the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC).
The trees will be planted by 10,000 people and organisations who snapped them up in minutes in a giveaway by the Woodland Trust, Sainsbury’s and ITV.
It followed the screening of the landmark documentary The Queen’s Green Planet on ITV in April.
The QCC includes conservation initiatives in all 53 Commonwealth countries, and marks Her Majesty’s lifetime of service by seeking to protect one of the world’s most important habitats – forests.
Each UK tree pack, going out on Monday, will contain five Uk-sourced and grown native broadleaf trees – two silver birch, two rowan, and a hazel – for gardeners to plant as their own contribution to the QCC.
