A formidable face for the new £50 note

sir – Two obvious candidates for a place on the new £50 note (Letters, October 19) have been ignored.

For solid – if unflamboya­nt – achievemen­t, surely Clement Attlee deserves the honour. However, if it has to be a woman, I propose Boudicca, for attempting to rid this country of unwelcome influences from across the Channel.

sir – As PM, Margaret Thatcher put the Great in Great Britain. Her female successor seems not to notice this when dealing with the EU. Basil Vaz

sir – As the £50 note is rarely accepted in the UK, the obvious person to appear on it is Prime Minister Theresa May.
