Mr Corbyn’s anorak showed a lack of respect

-

sir – In common with thousands of others, we lost family members in both world wars. Did they die so that a leader of the second largest political party, Jeremy Corbyn, could attend the service of remembrance at the Cenotaph casually wearing a hooded anorak? Did it not occur to him that many people would find such informal attire disrespectful?

sir – Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of HM Opposition, showed a lack of respect by wearing what appeared to be an anorak. Couldn’t he afford a decent black coat? Shades of Michael Foot.

sir – The Cenotaph ceremony illustrated the contempt in which Mr Corbyn holds this country When all present wore uniform or respectful black, he wore a red tie, showing his disdain for what we value.

sir – On November 20 1918, at the Newbury Grammar School debating society, my grandfather proposed that the Kaiser and German military chiefs be prosecuted at an international tribunal. He won the debate, but only by 32 votes to 27.

There were opposing views, such as: “The Germans were only doing what we did in previous centuries.”

And this in a school which lost more than 40 of its sons during the conflict.
