Scruton traduced

-

sir – Is anyone going to defend

Sir Roger Scruton (Comment, November 8), possibly the greatest mind in Britain, against scurrilous attacks by Corbynite MPS?

They misinterpret Sir Roger’s remarks and accuse him of believing in a Jewish conspiracy theory that only an idiot could believe in, while at the same time accepting anti-semitism in the party. A more plausible explanation is that they are simply lying. Alexander Tomsky

sir – It is outrageous that the eminent philosopher Sir Roger Scruton has been maligned by a number of rabid Labour MPS who are trying to get him sacked from his new (unpaid) role as adviser to the Government on the importance of making new building developments beautiful.

Some years ago he was my PHD supervisor, and a more kindly, helpful, cultured and brilliant man would be difficult to find. I have read with deep admiration nearly all his books, which number more than 50. Far from being offensive they are erudite, humane and inspiring.

I am sure his hate-filled persecutors have neither properly read his works nor listened carefully to his lectures, but have been intent on twisting his words, so taken out of context that they have actually reversed the meaning of what he has said.

Sir Roger’s greatest crime is that of being a conservative thinker (and, horror, a Christian). It is a paradox of the cult of “diversity” that only Left-wing (preferably anti-christian) views are now to be tolerated. Dr Frank Palmer
