Inception (2010) SYFY, 9.00PM ★★★★

 Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending psycho-caper stars Leonardo Dicaprio as the ultimate thief: he steals ideas by sneaking into the subconscious of his victims. His latest task, however, involves doing the reverse: he must plant an idea deep in an unsuspecting mind. The dream-within-a-dream plotting is bewildering (whisper it: total nonsense), but it all looks dazzling, and the cast, from Tom Hardy to Ellen Page, is equally starry.

Let the Sunshine In (2017) SKY CINEMA PREMIERE, 10.35PM ★★★★★

 Juliette Binoche is luminous in this sly, unabashedly thoughtful French film about romance and its attendant frustrations. Isabelle (Binoche) is a divorced artist on the hunt for a new man. As she works her way from one candidate to the next (including Xavier Beauvois and Alex Descas), Binoche’s superb performance and Claire Denis’s masterful direction imbue a fairly well-worn plot with fresh and sensitive poignancy.

This Is 40 (2012) FILM4, 10.55PM ★★★★

 Judd Apatow revisits two characters from his 2007 hit Knocked Up. Leslie Mann, Apatow’s wife, and Paul Rudd play a stressed-out Los Angeles couple whose 40th birthdays bookend the film. Apatow and Mann’s real-life daughters also play their children. It’s a really rather perceptive comedy on middle-age, and one that guarantees plenty of laughs alongside some of Apatow’s pertinent observations on love and marital discord.
