Meghan under fire as half-sister rebuts friends’ words of praise

THE Duchess of Sussex’s half-sister has launched a Twitter tirade against the “wealthy narcissist” after a group of her closest confidantes provided a glowing tribute of the former actress in the pages of an American magazine.

Reacting to People’s nine-page cover story headlined “The Truth About Meghan”, Samantha Markle took to social media to criticise the contents, describing the article as “total b-------” and “fake news”.

It came after the quintet, who were only identified as “a longtime friend, a former colleague, a close confidante, an LA friend and former co-star” stood up against what they described as “the global bullying” of the Duchess.

They detailed how the 37-year-old had written to her father, Thomas Markle, begging him to stop “victimising” her after the royal wedding and claimed the Duchess had “no relationship” with her half-siblings.

Royal watchers question the wisdom of responding to negative headlines, fearing it will only fuel bad publicity.

Samantha Markle wrote: “People magazine’s article is total b------- there are plenty of text messages and receipts to prove otherwise.” She claimed Meghan’s fans were “PR people”, before attacking the validity of those interviewed for the story. “‘Sources say’ means imaginary sources,” she wrote.

She later responded to her own post, writing: “If the narcissist is wealthy they pay very expensive PR teams to change the way people see you.”

One claim from Meghan’s friends was that Mr Markle would not get into a car sent to take him to the Windsor Castle wedding last May. In a letter sent after the wedding she allegedly told him: “Dad, I’m so heartbroken, I love you. I have one father. Please stop victimising me through the media so we can repair our relationship.”

Fans of the Duchess yesterday praised Serena Williams, the tennis player, who attended the Duchess’s wedding, for supporting her friend after she posted a cryptic message on Twitter.

Writing a caption that said “sips tea” on a photograph of her doing just that, Williams’ message was seen as being a reference to her enjoying the impact and content of the People article.

Although Kensington Palace has refused to comment on the article, it is thought aides are braced for Mr Markle to give another interview to a Sunday newspaper this weekend.

Yesterday, the Duke of Sussex joked about the weight of his unborn child as his wife joined him at a function to celebrate the achievements of military veterans. The Duke quipped “there’s a heavy baby in there” at a reception before the Endeavour Fund Awards, while the Duchess praised her husband saying: “He’s going to be a good daddy.”
