European arrest in Britain for political crimes

-

SIR – Theresa May’s Withdrawal Agreement is accompanied by a very explicit political declaration which makes clear, beyond any reasonable argument, that we will, in all areas, be shackled even more tightly and irrevocably to EU governance than we are already.

This will leave Britain bound by an enhanced European Arrest Warrant agreement that requires us to extradite named individuals to any other EU state without any need for specific charges, and now with the sinister addition of unspecified political crimes. Eddy Barrows

Wittersham, Kent

SIR – Even as she reneged on her pledge made 108 times that we will leave the EU on March 29 (report, February 27), Theresa May said in the House of Commons: “They are commitments I am making as Prime Minister and I will stick by them – as I have previous commitments.” MPS exploded in laughter, as did I while listening in my car. SIR – Posters from “HM Government” being displayed at London bus stops state unequivocally “UK leaves the EU 29.03.19.”

Are these a stage in the charade to convince us that we are leaving until events prove that we are not? Peter Clark

SIR – Whatever people think about Donald Trump, at least he is willing to walk away from a bad deal. Christopher Mann

SIR – I have been planning my will for two years now. Could Parliament extend my life, so that I can be sure of writing it before the Grim Reaper calls? David Steed
