White supremacism Misguided maniacs said to have inspired terrorist’s rampage

Breivik shook the world when he shot dead 69 teenagers at a summer camp on the island of Utoya, Norway, on July 22 2011.

Breivik, who has since identified as a fascist and a Nazi, also killed eight people by detonating a van bomb in Oslo’s government quarter.

The 40-yearold confessed after his arrest and told police that he was saving Norway and Western Europe from a Muslim takeover.

His actions were described as the worst act of violence in Norway since the Second World War. He is serving Norway’s longest sentence of 21 years, with the possibility of an extension. The 24-year-old famously laughed as he confessed to walking into a South Carolina church on June 17 2015, when he opened fire, killing nine people during a prayer service.

His motive, he told police, was to start a race war – he hoped his massacre would bring back segregation.

Up until his final argument, Roof showed no remorse. He said: “I still feel like I had to do it … anyone who hates anything in their mind has a good reason.”

On April 10 2017, Roof was sentenced to death for 33 federal charges, including murder and hate crimes, even after he pleaded guilty in order to avoid execution. The father-offour from Weston-supermare was jailed for life in February 2018 after he was found guilty of an attack on Muslims at a mosque in London in 2017.

Osborne mowed down worshippers outside a Finsbury Park mosque with a hire van. He is alleged to have expressed increasingly antagonistic views toward Muslims after the London Bridge terror attack, which happened two weeks before Osborne rammed a van into a group of men as they left Ramadan prayers on June 19 2017.

He smiled, waved and blew kisses as he was arrested. The sole suspect charged in October 2018 over a mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, which resulted in the death of 11 Jewish worshippers.

Bowers, 46, pleaded not guilty to 63 charges, which include 11 counts of using a firearm to commit murder.
