Editorial Comment:
SIR – I do wonder if those who are demonstrating so fervently against President Donald Trump’s visit have reflected on what would have happened if our greatest ally had not supported us against the tyranny of Germany in the Second World War, or to whom we should look for support if, God forbid, either Russia or some other not so friendly country decided to flex its muscles against Britain.
Shame on Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, and Jeremy Corbyn, the Labour leader. President Trump would do more to help us than either of these two gentlemen. James Cowie

SIR – Sadiq Khan has hurled abuse at the visiting president of the United States by publicly likening him to a 20th-century fascist. Mr Khan, who occupies an elected position, has no right – implied or inherited – to direct such obnoxious and insulting abuse at the head of state of our greatest and most respected ally.
Mr Khan does not act in my name, nor, I am sure, in the name of most British people. Peter Haddock

SIR – I don’t particularly care for President Trump, but have no objection to his spontaneous outbursts. For the most part, I agree with what he says.
Bring on honesty, I say. Just not in front of the Queen, please. Rosy Drohan

SIR – The BBC sank to a new low with the Victoria Derbyshire programme yesterday. Next to the news desk was a large Trump baby balloon.
What on earth is the BBC thinking of? Does it feel it appropriate to mock the president of the United States at a time when we are embarking on the 75th anniversary of the D-day landings with our greatest ally? Stefan Reszczynski

SIR – It does seem ironic that Labour members are protesting against Donald Trump while the party is currently the subject of a racism investigation by the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Rowland Aarons

SIR – I suggest Nigel Drake (Letters, June 3) has misinterpreted the reaction to Donald Trump’s visit. It is not directed against the United States, but the man himself.
He is a proven liar, misogynist and narcissist who will use the visit to create publicity for himself, his family and his campaign for 2020, and will do so unashamedly. My reaction is endorsed by my American relatives. Kevin Wallace
