PEUGEOT E-208 PRICE £25,000 (EST)
ON SALE EARLY 2020
Known for its fun, practical hatchbacks, Peugeot is entering the EV market with an electric take on its forthcoming 208. With a 211-mile range on offer, and (charger-dependent) the ability to charge to 80 per cent in about 20 minutes, the e-208 should suit most city drivers down to the ground. It offers the same space and practicality as its more traditionally powered siblings, boasting a
311-litre boot – being an EV doesn’t mean compromise. It’s a looker both inside and out too.
PORSCHE TAYCAN PRICE £62,000 (EST)
ON SALE EARLY 2020
Hot on the heels of Tesla’s luxury take on the EV is Porsche’s forthcoming Taycan. Boasting sporty looks, as well as Porsche’s sports-car dynamics, it promises to add some more excitement to the top of the EV sector. Being both an EV and a Porsche, it’s likely to be quick, with sub-four-second 0-62mph times being rumoured, as well as a 311-mile range. Thanks to an 800V charge set-up, it’ll recoup 249 miles in about 15 minutes.
VOLKSWAGEN ID.3 PRICE £26,000 (EST) ON SALE EARLY 2020
Hoping to replicate the success of the Golf, Volkswagen’s ID.3 is Wolfsburg’s entry to the EV race. The Golf-sized hatch is coming to the UK with a 58kwh battery pack and a promised 260 miles of range. With the right charger it’ll sup enough power to go 160 miles in about 30 minutes as well. With plenty of tech on board and slick styling, the ID.3 promises to be an enticing package. VW is set to be on to a winner.
AUDI E-TRON 50 QUATTRO PRICE £TBC ON SALE EARLY 2020
Audi’s e-tron SUV may be fresh-faced, but a new entry-level version is on its way in early 2020. The e-tron 50 Quattro gets a 71kwh battery and a 186-mile range, meaning a seven-second 0-62mph time and a 118mph top speed. Capable of an 80 per cent charge in about 30 minutes, you shouldn’t be waiting around too long when you need some juice. With enough range to suit most and the right badge, the e-tron 50 is an exciting prospect.
MINI ELECTRIC PRICE £24,400
ON SALE MARCH 2020
Mini’s forthcoming Mini Electric promises to bring some premium fun to the EV hatch segment. With familiar looks and the promise of a fun drive, the cheeky Mini should well be a hoot to drive around town. With its 33kwh battery and 181bhp motor, you can zip to 62mph in a sprightly
7.3 seconds and up a limited 93mph. A range of up to 145 miles isn’t massive, but for city drivers it’ll be just fine. Sixty years since the original, Mini’s still innovating.
