Day by day How explosive week might play out

-

Today

Boris Johnson had offered to meet Philip Hammond, the ex-chancellor and leader of the Tory rebels. But this and a larger meeting with all 21 Tory rebels was cancelled last night.

The MPS have been warned that if they vote for a Bill to block a new deal, they will be expelled from the party. Former Labour PM Tony Blair will urge Jeremy Corbyn not to vote for “the elephant trap” of an autumn general election.

Possible outcomes?

Downing Street hopes that as many as possible of the 21 rebels will come back onside.

Tomorrow

Labour will publish details of the Bill to force Mr Johnson to ask for an extension to the Oct 31 deadline to leave the EU. John Bercow is expected to allow MPS to vote on taking over the Commons agenda to vote on and pass the no-deal law.

Possible outcomes?

Rebel MPS who defy the Tory whip will be expelled from the party.

Wednesday

If MPS have taken control of the order paper, opposition politicians with Tory rebels will try to pass a law to block no deal. Mr Johnson is set to debate Mr Corbyn for the first time in the Commons.

Possible outcomes?

The “no-deal” bill will be watched closely to see if it is making enough progress in the Commons to pass through later stages in the Lords.

Thursday

The Bill must be considered in the Lords by this point if it has any chance of passing before prorogation.

Possible outcomes?

If the no-deal Bill falls, Labour may table a no-confidence motion in an attempt to bring down the Government.
