Teenager jailed for life over 14-year-old’s murder ‘most broken defendant in decades’

-

JADEN MOODIE’S killer was described yesterday as the most “broken” defendant to appear in a British court in more than 30 years, as he was jailed for life over the 14-year-old’s murder.

Ayoub Majdouline, 19, was sentenced at the Old Bailey where he was earlier convicted of murdering Jaden, who was knocked off a scooter and stabbed nine times in a “barbaric” gang attack.

James Scobie QC, representing Majdouline in court, said the youth lived a “shattered existence” as he described his childhood as “non-existent”, adding he was particularly traumatised by the murder of his father.

He told the court: “In my experience of 35 years on this side of the court, I have never come across someone as broken as this young man. He has not really stood a chance. He had significant disruption by experiences of trauma and exposure to certain ideologies that no one of any age should be exposed to.”

Majdouline, who had been identified as a modern slavery victim, was one of five Mali Boy gang members who drove a stolen Mercedes into rival Beaumont Crew territory in what became a “killing mission”.

He admitted drug dealing for the gang but denied being involved in Jaden’s murder. However, jurors heard his DNA was found on a bloody yellow rubber glove and knife discarded after the killing.

He was found guilty of Jaden’s murder and having a blade last week.

Judge Richard Marks QC sentenced Majdouline to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years plus 18 months to run concurrently. As Jaden’s family left court, Julian Moodie, his father, said: “British justice has been done.”

Det Insp Dave Hillier, of Scotland Yard, said: “Majdouline has never shown any remorse for the savage attack he carried out on a defenceless 14-year-old child.”
