In my place of work, there have been conversations about women’s sport which would not have taken place a couple of years ago. We had a sweepstake for the Fifa Women’s World Cup this summer. I do not think that has happened before either.

I really hope there becomes a time when women’s sport is seen as just sport. I just hope more companies get involved in sponsoring women’s sport.

That helps massively in terms of the awareness and visibility. When I was growing up, I did not think I could be a full-time hockey player, that was not an option. Obviously, I am lucky because of the National Lottery funding now, that has definitely improved things, but there is still a long way to go.

The landscape for women’s sport has improved year on year, which is encouraging. Having the extra television coverage has helped. It is great that we are starting to get more media coverage. It is just so important for young girls to see lots of different sportswomen play.

Over the next 12 months, I would like to see more consistent coverage of lots of different women’s sports

– and improve the scheduling.

With women’s football, you have the highlights show, but it is on really late in the evening.

Look what happens when people are able to watch live sport. The England football team’s match against Germany at Wembley last month was the biggest-attended England women’s match in the United Kingdom.

The club games have had more coverage, so it is not a coincidence that more people want to watch the international games, too.

My own sporting highlight has to be securing Olympic qualification last month. We have had numerous challenges since Rio, but our focus for the year was to qualify for Tokyo and it was great to secure our place.
