Women’s sport is getting there in terms of being seen as just sport, but changes in language are a big thing. I remember Pep Guardiola pulled up a journalist when questioned about Manchester City being on course to win the treble for the first time. He corrected them by talking about it being possibly the first time for “the men’s team”. Those societal changes are important.

Attitudes and perceptions are changing. I have heard of young boys imitating some of our players’ shots, which is nice. You often hear of young girls trying the shots our women are playing, but for young boys to do that, too, is great. It feels like quite a change in perceptions within society that boys see women’s sport on an equal level.

Winning the Kia Super League title with Western Storm was my sporting highlight. That was a nice finish to what was a tough summer for me and the England girls.

Away from cricket, the Solheim Cup was a highlight. It was a pretty remarkable finish and great to see so many people watching it and talking about it. For Europe to steal it on the final putt was dramatic.

Football felt like the first sport to make the crossover into the mainstream thanks to the World Cup. It got people in pubs and bars, which you have not really seen for a women’s event.

There have been good sports performances as well, attracting more people and sponsors.

I would like to see women’s sport kept in the mainstream press over the next 12 months, which helps with people talking about it. The challenge is to keep that going and to keep it going outside the big events. We need the slightly smaller events covered and so people can get involved and invested in those.
