Rugby Six Nations Ch’ship, Feb 2-March 15

England start their defence against France at the Stade du Hameau. A world-record 17,440 turned out for the fixture across the Channel two years ago. England will stage home matches at Doncaster’s Castle Park against Ireland (Sun Feb 23) and at the Stoop in Twickenham against Wales (Sat March 7). Italy made a big statement last season with their runners-up finish, while Scotland collected the wooden spoon after five straight losses, including an 80-0 loss to England which sealed their 14th Six Nations Grand Slam.

Cricket Tri-nation Series, Australia, Jan 31-Feb 12

England, now under the leadership of Lisa Keightley, head to Australia for this T20 World Cup warm-up in high spirits following their pre-christmas series whitewash of Pakistan in Malaysia.

After a heavy loss in last summer’s Ashes, England have a chance to turn the tables against the world No1 team. Completing the series line-up are India, who have reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup on three occasions.

England have made one change to the squad who faced Pakistan last month, with all-rounder Georgia Elwiss replacing Kirstie Gordon.

Cycling Para Track World Ch’ships, Canada, Jan 30-Feb 2

Fine-tuning performances with the Paralympics seven months away will be on the minds of the seven female GB riders of the 23-strong squad in Milton.

GB collected a record-breaking 20 medals in Apeldoorn last year, and among those defending titles will be Sarah Storey, who is aiming for selection for her eighth Paralympic Games.

Among her rivals in the pursuit and scratch race will be team-mate Crystal Lane-wright, last year’s scratch silver medallist. Sophie Thornhill and Helen Scott will hope to retain their titles in the kilo and sprint events.
