Duke of York called sex accuser ‘a very sick girl’
THE Duke of York described Virginia Roberts Giuffre as “a very sick girl” after she made allegations against Jeffery Epstein, it has been reported.
The Duke is said to have made the remark after she described the alleged abuse she had suffered by Epstein.
The Mail on Sunday claimed the comment was made to his friend Jonathan Rowland in 2011. The slur appears to question the mental health and credibility of Ms Giuffre.
Lawyers for clients suing the Epstein estate hit back, saying: “Until Andrew talks to the FBI about his relationship with Virginia it’s his credibility at stake, not hers. Virginia’s mental health is excellent and has been throughout, although it has been severely tested by Andrew and Epstein.”
Mr Rowland had contacted the Duke saying: “Hope the press isn’t getting you down to [sic] much.”
The Duke replied: “Not at all!… She is a very sick girl apparently. The innuendo is the problem. But there is nothing that one can do for that! Shrug and move on.” Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the exchange.
Last week, Ms Giuffre urged him to “do the right thing” and talk to the FBI, saying: “Tick tock Andy – time to talk.”
Ms Giuffre claims she was forced to sleep with the Duke three times, including once when she was trafficked to London by Epstein as a teenager.
The Duke vehemently denies the claim and said he had no recollection of ever meeting her.
US prosecutors last week heaped public pressure on the Duke by claiming he had provided “zero cooperation” to their requests for an interview.
He responded by saying he had not received a request to speak to them.
