Trump goads Obama over Biden endorsement delay
DONALD TRUMP has speculated over why Barack Obama has delayed giving an endorsement of Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee, claiming: “There’s something he feels is wrong,”
The US president has repeatedly questioned the mental acuity of Mr Biden, who became the Democrats’ presumptive candidate after Bernie Sanders suspended his campaign.
And he suggested Mr Obama also had reservations about Mr Biden, his vice-president for eight years.
“I don’t know why President Obama hasn’t supported Joe Biden a long time ago. There’s something he feels is wrong,” Mr Trump told reporters. “He knows something that you don’t know, that I think I know,” he told reporters.
Mr Obama has stuck to the normal practice of former presidents by staying silent while his party selected its candidate.
However, the former president and his wife Michelle Obama are expected to enter the campaign soon with focus now turning to the general election contest against Mr Trump.
Mr Trump also attempted to win over disaffected Sanders supporters, who see Mr Biden as part of the Washington establishment and disapprove of his record on trade and social justice.
Shortly after Mr Sanders quit the race on Wednesday, Mr Trump continued to sow division by suggesting that the Democratic establishment was plotting against the Vermont senator.
“Bernie Sanders is OUT … This ended just like the Democrats & the DNC wanted, same as the Crooked Hillary fiasco. The Bernie people should come to the Republican Party, TRADE!” Mr Trump tweeted.
