Hosts of hit sex chat podcast fall out over men and money

- By Josie Ensor in New York

IT WAS a hugely successful podcast starring two 20-something women talking candidly about their sexual experiences in New York.

Call Her Daddy was billed as a liberated, feminist “locker room” chat show about dating that quickly became one of the top podcasts in the US.

But now, the friends behind it − Sofia Franklyn, 27, and Alexandra Cooper, 26 − have fallen out with each other and their management.

The weekly podcast, which was hosted by Barstool Sports, suddenly stopped after an episode in April, leaving young female fans devastated. Now it appears the pair have been torn apart by the two things that brought them together − men and money.

“I found out that Alex had gone behind my back and done something, and I found out it wasn’t the first time and that’s why we’re here,” Miss Franklyn said on her Instagram account.

“I can’t do it while she’s demanding that she controls the show. I don’t want to be, like, her employee. We are partners. We’ve always been that way. We’ve always been 50-50, and so it’s putting me in an extremely tough position.”

Barstool signed the women to a three-year deal in 2018, which brought their first-year earnings to $461,000 (£377,000) for Miss Franklyn and $506,000 (£414,000) for Miss Cooper.

Dave Portnoy, Barstool Sports president, said Miss Cooper had negotiated for more money six months into their contract, arguing that she did more of the work and edited the show.

But Miss Franklyn refused to agree to the new terms according to Mr Portnoy, on the advice of her boyfriend, the HBO Sports executive Peter Nelson.

In the meantime, thousands of fans have begged for a reconciliation while others feel let down.

One listener tweeted: “$500k a year to talk about sex once a week and that’s not good enough for you? Imagine having it that easy … feel betrayed as a fan.”
