Swift refunds encourage future travel bookings

-

sir – My experience of holiday refunds (Letters, July 14) has been mixed.

Tui allowed our family to cancel a trip to Florida and put the money towards another holiday next year, and refunded the difference immediately.

Easyjet refunded the full amount just after its 30-day deadline.

IHG and Premier Inn issued refunds immediately on request.

Virgin promised a refund within 90 days – then extended it to 120 days.

I know which companies I will be using for future holidays.

sir – We realised while on holiday that lockdown was imminent and booked early flights home with Emirates.

The day before our flight we were told it had been cancelled, so travelled home with a different carrier.

Since our return on March 23, we have been trying to claim a refund from Emirates, but with no luck.

I do not understand how airlines can treat passengers with such disdain: they will be reliant on them for future custom when this is all over.

sir – I have a simple solution for those struggling to obtain refunds: log on to the government website and then go to “Make a court claim for money”, which gives clear instructions. The form can be completed on paper or online, with a fee starting at £25 for a claim of up to £300.

If travel companies are breaking the law, they will be forced by the court to refund the money owed.
