SEARCH FOR TWO MEN.

-

FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. EASTBOURNE, SUNDAY.

The body of Miss Irene Munro, a London typist, who was spending a holiday at Eastbourne, was found on the Crumbles on Friday with marks of severe injury upon it. The police are satisfied that she was murdered, and are endeavouring to trace two men. Miss Munro, who was only 17 years of age, is stated to have been employed in Oxford-street and to have lived with her mother at Queen’s-gate, South Kensington. The mother was on a visit to Edinburgh when the tragedy occurred, but arrived in Eastbourne early this morning, accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Winter, and a gentleman friend. Inspector Mercer, of Scotland yard, who is assisting the local police in investigating the case, interviewed Mrs. Munro this afternoon, and afterwards issued the following statement:

“Her movements have been traced during the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. At four o’clock on Thursday she was seen walking along the seaside past 393, Seaside, where she was staying. She was in company with two fairly tall young men dressed in herringbone grey suits and without hats. She always carried a blue silk handbag about 9in long by 6in wide, with a metal snap fastening and a handle, which passed over her arm, of the same material as the bag. She also habitually wore a nine-carat gold ring with a round cluster of four or five, possibly six, small brilliants or white stones. She is believed to have had between £2 and £2 10s in her possession, but the bag, ring, and money cannot be found.”
