Tiktok craze warning after girl, 12, gets trapped in toddler swing

- By Jessica Carpani

A TIKTOK craze is leading to “idiotic” teenagers becoming stuck in children’s swings, firefighters have warned.

A schoolgirl who was filming a Tiktok video is the latest to be rescued after getting trapped in a playground swing in Southampton. The 12-year-old squeezed into the swing, which is intended for toddlers, but quickly became stuck and had to be rescued. A crew from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spent almost an hour cutting her free.

Firefighters later branded the girl’s behaviour as “plain stupid” and warned others to use “appropriate-sized” swings in playgrounds. A crew from Hightown, near the New Forest, Hants, said: “We don’t normally judge anyone at the calls we go to.

“However, getting stuck in a child’s swing whilst filming a Tiktok is just plain stupid.

“This idiotic behaviour has tied up a truck for nearly an hour, preventing it from attending other calls.” Hampshire Fire Control also tweeted: “Yet another Tiktok call for a person stuck in a swing. It is not clever.

“Please use appropriate-sized swings for your age.”

The incident is the latest in a series of older children and adults getting stuck in children’s swings across Britain, which has been linked to the popular social media app.

As part of the trend, teenagers have squeezed into swings and uploaded videos of themselves to the app.

There have been reports of stuck teenagers in South Wales and Oxfordshire in the past month. Derbyshire and Portsmouth have also seen a rise in rescues. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: “If you are over the age of four, please don’t try and get in one.”

Tiktok Community Guidelines currently state that any content that “encourages or replicates dangerous challenges that might lead to injury” will be removed.
