Seven great organic beauty brands for under £12

-

Organic beauty and wellbeing week kicks off on Monday. It’s always something week. I don’t mean to sound cynical. Many organic skin products are highly effective.

According to Dr Pauline Hili, a scientist who used to work at Neal’s Yard before founding Nourish London Skin Range, organic skincare that avoids synthetics and plant derivatives grown with pesticides, isn’t just better for us but for the planet as well.

“Skin is not an inert organ. It absorbs a lot of what we apply to it. Supporting British organic brands helps protect the soil for future generations.” If in doubt, ewg.org is a non-profit source of useful up-to-date findings on all things cosmetic. And download the Yuda and Think

Dirty apps, which can help you determine whether that fabulous lipstick is as irresistible as you think.

Here are seven organic beauty products under £12.

1. Weleda, a German favourite since 1921, their Skin Food is a hero product at £7.95 (weleda.com)

2. Calming Argan Oil – organic argan and “natural” vitamin E (a miracle worker for scarring), £9.99 (facetheory. com)

3. Nourish London – lots of love for their travel-size antioxidant multitasking Super Balm, £12 (nourishskinrange.com)

4. Garden of Wisdom Organic Cold-pressed Argon Oil for Hair and Skin – rich in vitamin E, this is a supercharger, £10 (victoriahealth.com)

5. Sister & Co – yet another British brand. If you’re dabbling in organic beauty, lips are a sensible place to start. Their organic lip balm is extremely nourishing and smells great, £10 (sisterandcompany.co.uk)

6. Neal’s Yard – a British stalwart. All the products smell lovely, but they’re effective. Can’t argue with all the five stars on their Bee Lovely Hand Cream, £10 for 50ml (nealsyardremedies.com)

7. Green People – a British brand that’s transparent about the percentage of organic ingredients in its formulas. Oy! Clear Skin Moisturiser is an excellent starter for teens, £11.50 for 50ml (greenpeople. co.uk)
