Charles gave Camilla a bracelet before his wedding to Diana

The Crown: Diana discovers designs for a bracelet inscribed with “Fred and Gladys” and believes Charles has commission­ed it for Camilla, as a reminder of their pet names. Reality: Camilla has been pictured wearing a bracelet that appears to be engraved with G and F. According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, Diana came across it before the wedding and was “devastated”. Yet royal writer Penny Junor claims the letters stood for “Girl Friday” and says Charles gave jewellery as

“thank yous” to other loyal women before settling down.

The Queen’s cousins were sent to a mental hospital

The Crown: Princess Margaret discovers she has two cousins living in hospital due to mental disabiliti­es. Her character is outraged that no one speaks about them or visits. Reality: Nerissa and Katherine Bowes-lyon, the Queen Mother’s nieces, were severely disabled and spent most of their lives in hospitals, where according to a 2011 Channel 4 documentar­y, they were never visited by family. It’s not known whether the royals were aware of their existence.
