Judge backs Vardy in Rooney libel hearing
COLEEN ROONEY’S social media post accusing Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories to the media was a “whodunit ” story t hat “clearly identified” her as the person behind the alleged breach of trust, a High Court judge has ruled.
The two footballers’ wives are locked in a heated legal battle after Rooney accused Vardy, a one-time friend, of passing on updates from a private social media account to The Sun.
The court heard that both Vardy, right, and Rooney will now put the proceedings dings on hold until February ebruary so there could uld be “one final nal attempt too resolve the matter without the need for a full trial”.
In October last year, Rooney claimed that at she had worked out who was responsible for the leaks after a secret five-month plot, telling her followers it was “Rebekah Vardy ’s account”.
This week the High Court was asked to determine the “normal a nd ordinary ” meaning of the words in the “Wagatha Christie” post after Vardy launched libel proceedings against Rooney. Lawyers for Rooney said that the use of three ellipses and the word “account” in the post meant she was not implying that Vardy was persona personally responsible for the leak. But rather it co could have been one of the numerous indi individuals who had acce access to her social me media profiles. Mr Justice War by y yesterday threw out the“three ellipses” defence, concluding: “The tweet and post c complained of clearly suggest that the claimant i is guilty of wrongdoing.”
