Pretty in pink: promise from a ‘princess’ to a cancer patient
THE Duchess of Cambridge has promised to wear a pink dress when she meets a young cancer patient who featured in her lockdown photography project.
The Duchess, 39, spoke to four-yearold Mila Sneddon, whose portrait was chosen as a finalist in the Hold Still initiative, capturing life in lockdown Britain last year. Taken by her mother, Lynda, the image shows Mila kissing the window as her father stands outside.
A six-minute video posted on the Cambridges’ new Youtube channel yesterday featured audio of a conversation the Duchess had with the little girl last autumn. It was the first in a series promoting the Duchess’s book, published today. Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020 features all 100 photographs and an introduction from the Duchess.
The video explained that a week before the first lockdown, the family made the difficult decision to shield Mila as she was just four months into chemotherapy treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. While she remained at the family home in Falkirk with her mother, her father Scott and elder sister Jodi isolated elsewhere.
Mila asked the Duchess if she was wearing a costume. “I’m not wearing a princess costume right now, I’m afraid, Mila,” she replied, before being told that Mila’s favourite colour was pink.
“OK, well I have to make sure I go and try and find myself a pink dress so that when one day, hopefully, Mila, we’ll get to meet, I’ll remember to wear my pink dress for you.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex yesterday urged supporters to make a donation to a vaccine equity campaign to mark their son Archie’s second birthday.
