Email exchange over the Scobie book

-

Sept 12 Knauf to Duchess

In reply to her suggestion that they ask friends not to participate in the book: “Hi Ma’am – I don’t feel it is right in this instance to issue a proactive note asking people not to cooperate. It will almost certainly get back to Carolyn and Omid and even if worded in a warm manner I think could significantly change the nature of the project.”

“Has Omid gotten back to you with his outline of what he foresees covering in the book. If so, can [you] please let me know in separate email and then I can make the decision [about whether to invite him to report on a royal engagement] accordingly?”

Dec 10 Knauf to Duchess “Please see attached the areas Omid and Carolyn have asked to discuss with me. My advice is that we do not ask your friends to directly engage with them. I think it is important that we can say hand on heart they had no access.”

Duke to Knauf “...I totally agree that we have to be able to say we didn’t have anything to do with it.”

After receiving a list of questions: “Thank you very much for the info below – for when you sit down with them it may be helpful to have some background reminders so I’ve included them below just in case. I know you are better versed at this than most but assisting where I can. I appreciate your support – please let me know if you need me to fill in any other blanks.”

Duke to Knauf “Also, are u planning on giving them a rough idea of what she’s been through over the last 2yrs? Media onslaught, cyber bullying on a different scale, puppeteering Thomas Markle etc etc etc. Even if they choose not to use it, they should hear what it was like from someone who was in the thick of it. So if you aren’t planning on telling them, can I ?!”

“I also had close to two hours with Omid and Carolyn yesterday.

I took them through everything.”
